For most of us, life is busy enough. If we aren’t yet part of those fortunate retired folks yet, then most of us are carrying on with our daily grind. We spend hours and hours working all day; then we have family activities to address in the evening. There’s housework; kids games; hobbies; yardwork. You name it! At the exhausting end of each day we drop into bed worn out from all of the juggling, running about and just doing stuff. So, with so very much going on in our lives…it’s all too easy to just let things be.
Maintaining the status quo in our lives can be comforting. Basically, we manage most of our daily activities in just that way. In many ways, doing things the same way over and over again is functional and helps with organization. We pay bills that way. We have favorite pastimes and favorite meals. It’s living as usual and we get used to it because we feel like it saves us time and effort.
There is a problem with this kind of “lifestyle automation” as it were. We allow our cable rates to rise unnoticed. We miss the details and small print when we agree to the next Terms of Service for our latest iTunes upgrade. And we find those credit card limits rising without even noticing that we have been spending more as they gave us more to spend! All too often, we live with blinders on. And that is costing us.
Unscrupulous timeshare sales companies sell us on timeshares we cannot afford, cannot ever use, or just don’t really need in the first place. We bristle at the payments each month. But we pay them. We cringe at the overall debt we took on. But we agreed to it. And every year when our maintenance fees come due, we swear we are going to finally do something about it. But we don’t. We have accepted our timeshare worries, debt and troubles as just another part of our status quo.
We cannot make a real change until we make up our mind to make a change. And that first requires paying attention to those details we have relegated to obscurity. Today, there are real solutions to getting out of the burdens of timeshare. They really work and we really can get our live back and our finances back in order. But we have to take action and truly acknowledge what our timeshare is costing us.
Every year, whether we pay attention or not, our maintenance fees go up and timeshare sales companies push for more legislation to make it more and more difficult to get out. Time is not our friend when we look the other way. Time is costing us a lot of money because we wait when we should have taken action.
It’s time to turn around and address the waiting snake face to face. It preys on our financial future and it waits to do the same to our children because it will one day be in their garden, waiting. Forgetting that it is there is what makes it so destructive.
